Moving to a new phone
Your numbers are bound to the Device ID of the phone they were added on. When you switch phones, the app on the new one starts empty: the numbers are still in your Personal Account, but they have to be moved. In both cases you first log in to the app on the new phone; what happens next depends on the State of the number. Active numbers are migrated, Inactive numbers are deleted and added again. This guide covers both, in the order that keeps a rented number online.
Before you start
- Prepare the new phone as for the first time: Android 6 or newer, a factory reset if it is second-hand, the app installed from the APK, all permissions granted, Sharing SMS set as the default SMS app and battery optimization turned off. The full list is in How to start.
- Log in to the app on the new phone with the same Personal Account. This is needed in both cases: without it the app cannot see your numbers.
- Open Numbers in the Personal Account and check the State of every number you are moving: Active or Inactive. That decides the way.
- If a number is Not Ready, go through the Not Ready checklist before moving it. A new phone only helps when the cause was the phone. If the SIM card itself does not receive SMS, migration and adding on the new phone will fail too, because the confirmation SMS will not arrive.
- Move one SIM card at a time. While a SIM card is out of a phone, its number is offline, and more than 6 hours offline in a day costs that day’s reward.
Active numbers: Migrate to this device
Why not delete
An Active number is rented right now. Deleting it ends the rental, so Active numbers are only migrated, never re-added.
What migration does
The number moves to the Device ID of the new phone together with its rental. The client keeps receiving SMS on it as soon as the new phone is online.
- Insert the SIM card into the new phone and make sure it registers on the network. If the phone is outside the SIM card’s home country, turn on data roaming for that SIM card.
- In the app, tap Add and enter the number.
- The app reports that the number is already bound to another device and offers Migrate to this device. Tap it.
- Wait for the status: Ready in the app and in Numbers of the Personal Account.
If the migration does not complete, first make sure the SIM card works: it registers on the network and receives SMS. Then write to support with the number, the Device ID shown in the app, the phone model and the Android version. Do not delete the number.
Inactive numbers: delete and add again
- In the Personal Account, open Numbers and delete the number from its menu. This unbinds it from the old phone.
- Insert the SIM card into the new phone.
- In the app, tap Add and enter the number. Verification is automatic; if the confirmation SMS does not arrive, see manual number adding.
- The number appears in the app and in Numbers as Inactive, bound to the new phone, and waits for demand as before.
If you skip the deletion, the app answers “The specified number has been previously added, please indicate another number”: the number is still bound to the old phone. Delete it in the Personal Account and add it again.
Check the result
- Numbers in the Personal Account: every moved number shows the new device and the status Ready.
- The app on the new phone: all numbers are in the list, and the Sharing SMS notification with their status is in the notification panel.
- The old phone: once the SIM cards are out, remove the app or reset the phone before passing it on. It holds no numbers any more.
If something went wrong
The numbers are not in the app on the new phone
That is expected: they are bound to the Device ID of the old phone. Migrate Active numbers and re-add Inactive ones as described above.
“The specified number has been previously added”
The number is still bound to the old phone. If it is Inactive, delete it in the Personal Account and add it again. If it is Active, write to support instead of deleting.
Migrate to this device does not complete
Check that the SIM card registers on the network and receives SMS. A number that was Not Ready before the move usually fails for that very reason: the SIM card does not receive SMS, whichever phone it is in. If the SIM card works, write to support with the number, the Device ID and the log file.
“SIM limit reached: only 2 numbers can be added per device”
A device holds at most 2 numbers, and a number stays bound to the device until it is deleted in the Personal Account, even if its SIM card was taken out long ago. Open Numbers, delete the numbers whose SIM cards are no longer in this phone, then add or migrate the new one. If one of those numbers is Active, write to support first instead of deleting it.
The device belongs to another account
The app reports this when the phone is already linked to another partner’s account or to your own second account. One person may have only one account: a second one breaks the Terms and Conditions. If you have shared the phone with your referral, a friend, relative or acquaintance, the only way to unlink it from their account is to reset the phone to its factory settings.
Not Ready on the new phone
Go through the Not Ready checklist: permissions, the default SMS app, battery optimization and the network mode. Most cases on a new phone are power saving turned back on.
The support team works Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 20:00 (EET); all channels are on Support and Contacts.
